Bill Bryson 的文字里太多机智与幽默，总让我哑然失笑。虽然他的段子多到轻浮的地步。他这一次开车穿行美国大陆，去了不少很无聊的小镇，可这经历被他写的妙趣横生。看完了，我决不会想去跟随他的足迹访问这些小镇，但是我一定会再去读他的书。

基本上还原了他当年走的路线，按照书中描写的城镇。有些地方谷歌自己生成的路线实在无法改，比如他提到有一段景观公路开上去还是gravel road。在地图上无论我怎么拖动路线都改不了。而且谷歌一段路线的最多节点是固定的，所以只好分了五段，三段是东部的，两段是西部的。 ...

上课断断续续读完了《失落的大陆》。我人在教室，心儿却跟着比尔.布莱森飞啊，飞啊，飞到美国去了。这比什么《红楼梦》的家谱有意思多了。各种热情奔放的餐馆服务员，以及各种对着游客垂涎欲滴的旅游景点，还有那燥热的无尽公路，富有特色的城镇名称和当地口音，不怀好意的天...

在2天之内划过所有地点人名, 这个BILL无数次在加油站，无数次在café点炸薯条和炸鸡套餐...永远在说"我到了某某公路，某某城市，这里很picturesque, 这里poor 或rich,这里有某某纪念馆..." 作为travel literature也许只能在tedious之间找点妙语连珠了... 当然他确实也算是美国...

有点不忍给3星，但是给4星的话又觉得不实在。怎么说呢，期望太高，看过好多人说这Bill Bryson的第一本书是最能体现他幽默的一本，我就相应的期待它为一本能让我“捧腹大笑”的书。不过很明显Bryson的幽默也需要适当的心情去体会，最近工作的忙碌以及Boston爆炸案的影响，常常让我没办法去读这本充满揶揄的作品。读最后四分之一部分时终于结束了心情的阴霾，似乎有更多处让我能笑出声来(though still sporatic, if compared to A Walk in the Woods)，不确定是这部分的确更好笑，还是我不再受消极情绪的影响。总之Bryson的幽默有时过于smart & cynical，双刃剑，小失望。

Bryson自成一派的调侃文风，印象比较深的是Cape Cod，还有卡波特的Cold Blood的原型地挺想去，旅程最后因为对Baseball players不再熟悉而遗憾收场，这股子sense of dislocation总算是画上了句号。
