評分Bill Bryson 的文字裏太多機智與幽默,總讓我啞然失笑。雖然他的段子多到輕浮的地步。他這一次開車穿行美國大陸,去瞭不少很無聊的小鎮,可這經曆被他寫的妙趣橫生。看完瞭,我決不會想去跟隨他的足跡訪問這些小鎮,但是我一定會再去讀他的書。
評分在2天之內劃過所有地點人名, 這個BILL無數次在加油站,無數次在café點炸薯條和炸雞套餐...永遠在說"我到瞭某某公路,某某城市,這裏很picturesque, 這裏poor 或rich,這裏有某某紀念館..." 作為travel literature也許隻能在tedious之間找點妙語連珠瞭... 當然他確實也算是美國...
評分基本上還原瞭他當年走的路綫,按照書中描寫的城鎮。 有些地方榖歌自己生成的路綫實在無法改,比如他提到有一段景觀公路開上去還是gravel road。在地圖上無論我怎麼拖動路綫都改不瞭。 而且榖歌一段路綫的最多節點是固定的,所以隻好分瞭五段,三段是東部的,兩段是西部的。 ...

有點不忍給3星,但是給4星的話又覺得不實在。怎麼說呢,期望太高,看過好多人說這Bill Bryson的第一本書是最能體現他幽默的一本,我就相應的期待它為一本能讓我“捧腹大笑”的書。不過很明顯Bryson的幽默也需要適當的心情去體會,最近工作的忙碌以及Boston爆炸案的影響,常常讓我沒辦法去讀這本充滿揶揄的作品。讀最後四分之一部分時終於結束瞭心情的陰霾,似乎有更多處讓我能笑齣聲來(though still sporatic, if compared to A Walk in the Woods),不確定是這部分的確更好笑,還是我不再受消極情緒的影響。總之Bryson的幽默有時過於smart & cynical,雙刃劍,小失望。
