菲利普・罗斯（Philip Roth），1933年出生在美国新泽西州的纽瓦克市，被认为是当代最杰出的美国犹太裔作家之一。罗斯以短篇小说《再见，哥伦布》崛起，在过去的十年间，他已赢得美国多个主要文学奖项，1998年更是凭借《美国田园诗》一举获得美国普利策文学奖，电影《人性污点》即由他2000年出版的同名畅销小说改编，他也是近年来获诺贝尔文学奖呼声颇高的作家之一。

这是一本关于生与死的寓言，表面上Philip Roth所写的是一个退休老教授和一个叫康秀拉的女学生之间的爱情与情欲的故事，正如它的中译本扉页上所写的，他迷恋她的身体，无法自拔，渐渐地，对年龄 差距的恐惧、对青春的妒忌抽走了他的自信，他们结束了这段痛苦的感情。然而，这段...  

几乎一口气读完，文字流畅，就像我崇拜的那种人一样，优雅成熟。 故事上，喜欢老少配的，不要错过，讲一个会弹钢琴的浪漫老流氓，爱上聪明且荷尔蒙分泌过多的女孩的故事。  

故事的作者是一个年过七旬的教授，而作为读者的我，刚好是年轻的上过大学的女生。看着这个老男人以他的角度、他的感受来讲述这个也许是真实的故事，刚开始多少有点恶心（原谅我的思想跟康秀拉一样古板），慢慢的（作为现阶段我只是看到的感情问题），发觉这个老男人很可怜...
