其实罗斯并非一个充满深奥哲理的人，他于1925年创刊《纽约客》时只不过要替纽约闲暇阶级供应一本有趣味的消遣杂志，不料由于他的脾气的古怪与用人的精明，他集中人才，竟把《纽约客》造成美国文学界一本权威刊物。
