A basic problem in computer vision is to understand the structure of a real world scene given several images of it. Techniques for solving this problem are taken from projective geometry and photogrammetry. Here, the authors cover the geometric principles and their algebraic representation in terms of camera projection matrices, the fundamental matrix and the trifocal tensor. The theory and methods of computation of these entities are discussed with real examples, as is their use in the reconstruction of scenes from multiple images. The new edition features an extended introduction covering the key ideas in the book (which itself has been updated with additional examples and appendices) and significant new results which have appeared since the first edition. Comprehensive background material is provided, so readers familiar with linear algebra and basic numerical methods can understand the projective geometry and estimation algorithms presented, and implement the algorithms directly from the book.

非常好的一本书。四个对应点的算法影响实在是太大了。有兴趣的话还可以看看“In Defense of the Eight-Point Algorithm”，1997年发表。非常的严谨。其实，书里面的算法并不难理解，但是最棒的是书中提供了用伪代码写成的算法。这对实现算法以及理解非常非常有帮助！。  

计算机视觉分两大类：1.识别 2. 三维。我读书的时候research是做三维的，老板是Marr奖得主。 本书刚出的时候，我国内的老板就带了一本回国。当时还没有入门，但richard的书写的非常容易看。从single view开始看，很快就看进去了。第一次感受到科学的神奇就是那个暑假。真是读...

其实一直很想读一读Hartley的这个书，可惜国内没有。 申请ANU的CV组失败了，很沮丧，网站上看Hartley还是蛮和善的一个老头（不好意思，这么说他）。有没有能力不是问题，能不能做到才是关键。教授的个人网址：http://users.rsise.anu.edu.au/~hartley/

断断续续看了三个月，点面兼顾，尤其是从conic的角度来看各种reconstruction问题，看起来更加直观简洁。不过我还是喜欢马毅的那本书。

绝对的顶尖水平，可惜我的三维重建突破是在另一本书上，日后细读。

只读了第二章，不过已经领略到了 projective geometry 以及里面各种 subgroup transformation 形式上的美了。
