Polchinski's book also have exercises but most of them are a bit difficult. this one is suitable, and it contains exercise with answers. a necessary one.

前8章写的不错，第9章我以前看过arxiv 9702155，如果没看过估计也够呛第10章，我看的就有点晕了，相关的techinic不熟，后来Katrin Becker的一个学生给我讲了idea, 才知道那段在写什么。

我还是最喜欢Polchinski, 因为是初心. 评论说这本有GSW的风格，但GSW最大的优点(振幅计算)恰恰是此书所欠缺的. Becker这书的好处是对Green-Schwartz formalism有详细介绍(Polchinski根本没写),light-cone量子化比Polchinski要详细, 然后成书时间晚, 故而有你们热爱的AdS/CFT. 紧化时空弦论这一块的技术已经和微扰弦很不一样了，我觉得几乎就只是classical supergravity而已, 没有UV量子化的内容(因为不知道啊2333). 有讲mirror symmetry的野心，但不讲拓扑弦的话这就注定是trivial的

扫过Polchinski和BLT的和Barton的string book,再回过头才感觉这本才是最有GSW风格的书(此BBS和GSW是同一个Schwarz!质量保证你懂的)，在complete和装逼之间平衡点最舒爽的，有一气呵成之感. 一般书没涉及到的(Flux) compactification, ADS/CFT也有讨论到. 紧致化的数学intro建议看GSW II chapter12, chapter 15的, 很爽的
