其实最感兴趣的还是第一章讲自由和责任，为什么自由是责任意义上的自由，to be held responsible是自由的条件。前半部书做了一个心理学基础，为什么rational control和volitional control意义上的自由是不够的，需要的是discursive control；后半部联系到political liberty，政治、民主什么的他的共和主义政治理念。discursive control颇有点哈贝马斯的味道，甚或批判也可以照着这个路子来。收获也在于它对agency层次上的探索；问题也在于当他用责任说自由时，他提供的是control-based model of agency，只用结果来评判action和desire。这也是这门课后面的阅读希望超越于此的。
