Exposing a shocking, previously-hidden world to his readers, Orwell gave a human face to the statistics of poverty for the first time - and in doing so, found his voice as a writer. Eric Arthur Blair (1903-1950), better known by his pen-name, George Orwell, was born in India, where his father worked for the Civil Service. An author and journalist, Orwell was one of the most prominent and influential figures in twentieth-century literature. His unique political allegory "Animal Farm" was published in 1945, and it was this novel, together with the dystopia of "Nineteen Eighty-Four" (1949), which brought him world-wide fame. All his novels and non-fiction, including "Burmese Days" (1934), "Down and Out in Paris and London" (1933), "The Road to Wigan Pier" (1937) and "Homage to Catalonia" (1938) are published in "Penguin Modern Classics". 做功课1，很明显看出这本书对Tony Bourdain的影响，感觉kitchen confidential照着这个写的

有点震撼。毕竟刚刷完一圈雷蒙德，似有异曲同工。底层种种难道不应该被投以更切切目光?奥同学的美好文笔早期已然。又是一个想要一点点探究的作者。今所遇见梦幻仙境的一个引子?(跟后来看到的报告文学又有相似略伤感)

早几年读可能会关注底层生活琐碎故事。现在明白流浪汉不只是个人选择，也有社会原因。书中少有长评，最触动的是：He lives in a rhythm between work and sleep, without time to think, hardly conscious of the exterior world; his Paris has shrunk to the hotel, the Metro, a few bistros and his bed.……To sum up, a plongeur is a slave, and a wasted slave——不要成为潜水员（plongeur），警醒自己：保持上进，多多社交，好好理财--2018年第23本，kindle第36本

前面还挺有意思的（想起那段在欧洲大陆现金不足的日子…），然而后劲儿不足。转去小酒店后就开始略无聊了（然而投行狗看得各种有共鸣…），伦敦的流浪汉生活更是忍不住一目十行地快进翻完到最后……不过描写还是很生动的
