A sensory ethnography set in the rainforest of Papua New Guinea, among the Kaluli people of Bosavi, "Sound and Sentiment" introduced the anthropology of sound, or the cultural study of sound. After it was first published in 1982, a second edition, incorporating additional field research and a new postscript, was released in 1990. The third edition includes all of the material from the first two editions, along with a substantial new introduction in which Feld discusses Bosavi's recent history and reflects on the challenges it poses for contemporary theory and representation.

強調“鳥”在Kaluli人文化中的核心地位，側重於口頭藝術的講解。文化人類學課程的拓展閱讀。大概是我讀的最快的書（自己設的dll，跪著也要讀完）

終於在考試前將這本書刷瞭一遍，這大概是我目前讀得最慢的一本書。（跪倒????????在自己渣渣的英語水平上）作者大概用瞭結構主義、象徵主義、認知人類學等分析方法對巴布亞新幾內亞bosavi的kaluli人的音樂進行瞭細緻的田野調查。Steven Feld開頭就說（你應該用耳朵去聽，而不僅是看這本書），為此還製作瞭一些專輯（bosavi， voice of the rainforest等）。此書主要講瞭變成一隻muni鳥的神話故事（美學核心）、鳥的分類、詩歌和麯調（女人因哭泣而唱歌，男人因唱歌而哭泣），超級詳實的民族誌材料，還有精彩的將男女歌唱形式不同置於社會文化中的結構分析，後記還寫瞭作者的田野和民族誌寫作反思～讀一遍還不能完全消化。。。
