虽然是有名的小说，虽然号称《皮裹腿故事集》中最经典的作品，但是我再三努力，最终还是没能读完。还是时代的关系吧，这种叙述中夹杂许多议论的叙事方式，旧时代繁复的礼节、比喻和做派，还有无处不在的白人的种族优越感，不熟悉的印第安部族与殖民史，都影响到阅读的流畅感...

歐美的財富積累很大程度上是掠奪，無論是北美還是南美，由於白人的入侵使得當地的原住民銷聲匿跡。光看小說的名字就知道是個驚心動魄的悲劇故事。那些為被開墾的土地上的人用生命保衛家園，結局卻都一樣，不甚唏噓。
