一部关于美国南方小镇的故事，种族关系贯穿始终，但显然作者没有用脸谱化的方式来塑造人物。 最终和解的大结局似乎有些故意为之，算是瑕疵。

John Grisham近年来的小说是越来越走公益路线了，放弃了很多他擅长的畅销小说手段。
