没法跟法学院的很多人沟通的一个重要原因，就是，他们不读史书还觉得自己特聪明特牛逼特有见地。

作者观点和William McNeill一脉相承，旨在挑战西方主导世界体系必然论，把资本主义的发展初期从16世纪往前推至13世纪中期，并指出13世纪作为一个非西方主导的世界体系，同时容纳了多种多样的经济，文化结构，并且中东及亚洲在各方面均有超越西方的表现，若非黑死病导致世界体系骤变，则今日之世界格局实应另有一番面貌。能把西方历史放在世界史框架来整体理解，并且摒弃西方中心主义实属难得，能把这么多secondary sources用得一气呵成也是高手，虽然小错也还是不少。值得改进的可能是作者过于马克思主义的观点，世界体系除经济体系之外，其他都是附庸，却也不尽然如此，值得商榷。
