跟之前读过的小说都不一样，但是又说不好哪里不一样。第一次见到作者这样讲述这一家子，男主T.S. Garp，男主妈妈Jenny Fields，男主妻子Helen Holm，男主三个孩子Ducan、Walt和Jenny，以及配角们：变性人Roberta、出版社编辑John Wolf、Ellen James等等传奇又普通的一生，每个人终有一死。在盖普眼中的世界所有人都是末期绝症。这是结尾，我好像没有看懂又好像懂了。此外，小说中还穿插了三个故事，简直是非常惊喜的彩蛋！
