很快翻瞭一遍，荷蘭是今天美利堅國族的源頭嗎？至少在英國人進駐之前荷蘭人就建立瞭新阿姆斯特丹，即後來的紐約。荷蘭宗教自由和商業精神傳承下來瞭，從這個意義上來說，比稍晚新英格蘭的清教殖民地更能代錶後來的美國，多元化的曼哈頓是美利堅當今最突齣的特質。不過，當下的美國社會也是經曆重重曆史的曆程形成的，多種族和族裔一起形成瞭美利堅的國民性，這樣看，荷蘭人是其中一股被遺忘而又重新發現的勢力吧。
