Mila Versteeg, University of Virginia

Mila Versteeg is Associate Professor at the University of Virginia School of Law. Her research and teaching interests include comparative constitutional law, public international law and empirical legal studies. Prior to joining the University of Virginia School of Law, Versteeg was an Olin Fellow and lecturer in law at the University of Chicago Law School. Versteeg's articles have appeared in the Journal of Legal Studies, the California Law Review, the NYU Law Review and the UCLA Law Review, among others.

This volume analyses the social and political forces that influence constitutions and the process of constitution making. It combines theoretical perspectives on the social and political foundations of constitutions with a range of detailed case studies of constitution making in nineteen different countries. The result is a multidimensional study of constitutions as social phenomena and their interaction with other social phenomena. The approach combines social science analysis of the nature of constitutions with case studies of selected constitutions.
