Area X has been cut off from the rest of the continent for decades. Nature has reclaimed the last vestiges of human civilization. The group is made up of four women: an anthropologist; a surveyor; a psychologist, the de facto leader; and our narrator, a biologist. Their mission is to map the terrain, record all observations of their surroundings and of one anotioner, and, above all, avoid being contaminated by Area X itself.

作者塑造了一个宏大美丽，引人入胜的谜，而且越搞越大。最后什么都不解释，以造成一种百爪挠心用好奇心活活气死读者的效果。第二部读了一半就停下了。因为据多个幸存读者的书评称，读完三部曲的读者大部分都被活活气死了。电影预告片很符合想象，蛮期待的。

3.5，很怪异的感觉

这本像是个长引子，只挖坑不填，让我想到当年追的Lost。不过，男女主角的感情线还是很吸引我。夫妻之间的感情总不比情侣之间的清晰明了，有些像悬疑小说，你到底还像以前那样爱我吗？我们结婚是为了什么？我们是不是还是比较适合一个人生活？整个探险，都是因为爱情。比较打动我的地方是，女主找到老公的笔记，看到里面夹着树叶池塘照片这些她才喜欢的东西，才发现，他们竟是如此相爱。所以，当我看到电影里面居然弄了个婚外情，让我很生气。

科幻设定上很明显属于迷失那一类的挖巨坑而填不上，主题上也很难达到真正厉害文学的高度，不过那种字里行间那种biological/ecological horror的催眠迷幻感与subtly creeping uneasiness还是很厉害的，尤其是descent into the Tower和遭遇大boss一段，换成电影的话大概就是2001太空漫游里穿越时空那一段的观感。

看完电影找来原作看的。作为一本探险队生物学家(相当于电影女主)的自述，整体调性隐忍而悲凉；情节上几乎一直在挖坑而没有给出任何确定的答案。作为三部曲开篇是很棒的开局，同时原著强调主观知觉感受的风格也确实凸显出改编电影的独特之处。
