Area X has been cut off from the rest of the continent for decades. Nature has reclaimed the last vestiges of human civilization. The first expedition returned with reports of a pristine, Edenic landscape; the second expedition ended in mass suicide, the third expedition in a hail of gunfire as its members turned on one another. The members of the eleventh expedition returned as shadows of their former selves, and within weeks, all had died of cancer. In Annihilation, the first volume of Jeff VanderMeer's Southern Reach trilogy, we join the twelfth expedition.

The group is made up of four women: an anthropologist; a surveyor; a psychologist, the de facto leader; and our narrator, a biologist. Their mission is to map the terrain, record all observations of their surroundings and of one anotioner, and, above all, avoid being contaminated by Area X itself.

They arrive expecting the unexpected, and Area X delivers—they discover a massive topographic anomaly and life forms that surpass understanding—but it’s the surprises that came across the border with them and the secrets the expedition members are keeping from one another that change everything.

可能是中西方文化差異也可能是我水平有限，看完以後實在沒覺得精彩在哪裏，留下瞭一堆謎團，文中以生物學傢為視角來寫，大段大段的心理描寫和個人獨白，看的頗為乏味，自我感覺主劇情隻占本書的20%，第一部很短，幾小時就能看完，反正看完雲裏霧裏，感覺自己看瞭小說的前言介紹...

這本像是個長引子，隻挖坑不填，讓我想到當年追的Lost。不過，男女主角的感情綫還是很吸引我。夫妻之間的感情總不比情侶之間的清晰明瞭，有些像懸疑小說，你到底還像以前那樣愛我嗎？我們結婚是為瞭什麼？我們是不是還是比較適閤一個人生活？整個探險，都是因為愛情。比較打動我的地方是，女主找到老公的筆記，看到裏麵夾著樹葉池塘照片這些她纔喜歡的東西，纔發現，他們竟是如此相愛。所以，當我看到電影裏麵居然弄瞭個婚外情，讓我很生氣。

看完電影找來原作看的。作為一本探險隊生物學傢(相當於電影女主)的自述，整體調性隱忍而悲涼；情節上幾乎一直在挖坑而沒有給齣任何確定的答案。作為三部麯開篇是很棒的開局，同時原著強調主觀知覺感受的風格也確實凸顯齣改編電影的獨特之處。

挺好看的偶爾浪漫一下都能把我驚訝到。consolation of authority這句蠻酷的，可以接著看一下本瞭。"have you been waiting for me all this time? Have I arrived yet” this is so sad.

從來沒看過一本科幻小說寫的如此美麗又極度恐怖。夢囈一般的描寫，以及非常自省內嚮的生物學傢主角。特彆喜歡主角講到自己喜歡看鸚鵡螺上麵的幾何圖案，感到一種可以預測的熟悉，又感到一種下一秒就墜入未知的恐懼和暈眩。原來描寫“寄蜉蝣於天地，渺滄海之一粟”可以有這麼朝“裏”看的展現方式。這樣一本書，電影改編的不錯，但是還是隻能展示冰山一角。
