前言

在呈献[雪山大师]之时，我愿意告诉各位读者在一八九四年有一队研究团到远东研究东方宗教，团员十一人，我是其中之一。

三年半逗留期间，我们与喜马拉雅山上的大师圣哲相处在一起，他们帮我们翻译文献和记录，对研究工作帮助很大。他们允准我们与他们共事共处，使我们能了解他们所行出来的[道]。[大师]之名对他们来说只是让我们易于称呼它们的名称而已；而我们称呼他们[大师]却是代表我们的尊敬与崇仰。

当时我们与大师们在一起的经历都保存起来没有发表，因为我个人认为世界尚未准备好能接受这些讯息。我在研究团是独立作业的，现在我把自己的一些手稿编撰成书公诸于世，书名是：[远东大师的生活与教训。]我个人以为读了本书之后，能否接受其中之事实，无关紧要，唯读者能够客观。

本书描述我们与大师相处在一起第一年的经历，并包括他们的教导。当时承蒙他们答应，并准许我们将之做成笔记。

大师们认为佛陀代表悟道之路，但是我们也很清楚地说明基督就是道，就是意识的一个境地，是我们正在寻找的自性之光，因为每一位降生在世的人都是[生命之光]。
