Her research explores how perceptions can alter historical outcomes, and she has published several articles and translations of texts relating to the relationship between the Ottoman Empire and the Japanese in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

讲述奥斯曼帝国的人如何认识日本，并在自身关于现代化和民族身份等问题的论述中利用日本作为案例。做了许多奥斯曼史的功课，但是我不喜欢这本书，理由有三：1. 注水严重，许多内容是背景性介绍，真正的信息量不大，2. 写日本史多少要涉及中国，从参考书目来看作者对中国史的阅读很有限，书中和中国有关的内容至少是confusing的，特别是在作者在一本书里用不同的转写体系转写人名的情况下，3. 作者对日本的认识也很有限，完全不会日语（书主要靠英土阿材料），一会儿姓放在名前，一会儿名放在姓前，而且这位大姐似乎不知道明石元二郎是谁......你写奥斯曼人认识日本之前你自己是不是也要先认识一下日本？
