这个孩子的宠物鸟死了（也许是被黑狗咬死的），他被黑狗吓丢了新鞋，放学回家的路上他想起老师布置的作业，想去图书馆查资料但没去，因为妈妈要他准时回家…晚上他做了个梦，梦见被囚禁在地下，有无尽的迷宫，被铁链拴住的脚踝

也算赶了潮流，买了本月热卖的书。作为非村上春树粉丝，很喜欢这个充满象征意义的古怪故事，可惜刚刚有意思就戛然而止了，不过瘾。总能让人想到格林童话里逃脱黑暗魔法的桥段。只不过童话的结局都是好的，而这个故事的结局却是掉入另一个无法摆脱的黑暗中。无助的孤独的少年，独自在黑暗中挣扎。
