如果要用4个字去形容这本书的价值，我想了想，“没有干货”足以。里面没有你想看到的他对金融系统或者是经济运行的见解，世纪初的网络泡沫、08年金融危机也是草草而过。相反，他来来去去讲的就是中国应该开放资本市场，解除金融管制，让资本流动起来。同时，你在书里也看不到你原本想听到的内幕，反正踩着下台的人捧当朝的人就对了。至于这点，我们倒是见怪不怪。

作为中国政府的老朋友，作者无疑是位极度了解国情的商人，曾先后担任高盛高管、布什政府美国财长、保尔森基金会创始人，几乎全程参与了中国经济改革的重要事件，如中国电信IPO、中石油IPO、中国银行IPO，创立中美SEC体制和其他环保项目等，有些决策过程在国内几乎是无法了解到的。文章最后对体制改革提出的批评和建议，都是很符合实际，可见作者虽是自由市场经济理论的拥护者，却也是个务实主义而非理想主义者。
