Randall Munroe is the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller What If?, the science question-and-answer blog What If, and the popular webcomic xkcd. Randall was born in Easton, Pennsylvania, and grew up outside Richmond, Virginia. After studying physics at Christopher Newport University, he got a job building robots at NASA Langley Research Center. In 2006, he left NASA to draw comics on the Internet full-time, supporting himself through the sale of xkcd t-shirts, prints, posters, and books. He likes candlelight dinners and long walks on the beach. Very long walks. 读这书的很大一部分乐趣来源于单凭标题，或者正文先来猜测一番作者指的是什么。于我而言，最有用有益的部分是美国宪法及修正案一节，不知这部分在中国译本里是否保留了。

如何用1000个常用英语单词来描述与介绍复杂事物（比如国际空间站、核弹等等），这本书给出了很好的解决方式，那就是巧妙利用二者之间的相同点（比如细胞cell被称为袋子bag）进行转述。为了更精准的表达不同的事物，我们创造以及选择复杂的词汇，但请先暂时忘掉复杂的GRE词汇，试着用简单的生活用词来表达同样的事物，这也大概是婴儿不断学习词汇的必经之路，也是我们初学外语身在异国他乡时的第一感受。书中的黑白蓝配图特别精美，作者也是著名漫画xkcd的创作人，没事的时候可以翻一翻，尝试猜测作者到底在描述什么以及换做自己如何描述更为贴切。

书中巨无霸！应该是半开纸。酷炫~！内容涉及很广，而且真的都是超级简单的单词。真的怎么四处安利这本书都不过分吗。一个字，买。
