I wish there were a Chinese writer with the wit, honesty, and ruthlessness to do for Chinese literature and myths of national identity what O'Nolan did for the Irish in this book. The translation merits a special note: Patrick Power does a remarkable job of rendering O'Nolan's Irish into English prose that flawlessly mimics O'Nolan's style in English. Ni bheidh a leitheid aris ann, indeed.
