读了1950后的部分，当学英语阅读材料看的。第一次读这之类的文集，发现挺有趣，角度刁钻，充满人文关怀，写了很多我的盲点。

出诸众名家之手，算是各擅胜场。不过总体看有多少新意倒也勉强，把近代中国的起始时间安置在明，仿佛也只是为了迁就海外汉学Late Imperial China的既有设定而已。另外，或许是由于面向西方读者，一些细节上的信息交代难称全面，譬如James Carter的第五章，有关蒋对日之不抵抗以及西安事变的起因说得都不尽准确，还不得不靠Rana Mitter在第六章加以转圜，这无疑也损害了全书内容上的统一性。
