这是一本关于历史上利率的研究书籍，里面都是数据表格与图形。对于债券研究非常有帮助，但是对于不喜欢的人来说，这是一本非常枯燥的书籍，因为都是数据，而且对书籍也没太多的分析——由于作者不希望自己的主观判断影响读者的研究。总体来说是一本不错的书籍。

必须小心的是，这里的数据都是原始数据，甚至不知道剔除了通货膨胀没有，当然通胀只是近代的现象。利率变化背后的一些因素还是很不明了。如果有人对数据背后的因素做一些详细的分析或许更好，利率史分析，希望中国的历史学家也能做做类似的研究。

利息的历史听起来象个干巴巴的话题，但是本书讲述了过去4个世纪利息变化和借贷的历史。作者的结论是在一个工业化国家里，对自由市场条件下长期利息趋势的分析可以帮助我们判断这个国家经济和政治的健康状况。这一发现对今天的投资者尤为重要。
