利息的曆史聽起來象個乾巴巴的話題，但是本書講述瞭過去4個世紀利息變化和藉貸的曆史。作者的結論是在一個工業化國傢裏，對自由市場條件下長期利息趨勢的分析可以幫助我們判斷這個國傢經濟和政治的健康狀況。這一發現對今天的投資者尤為重要。

必須小心的是，這裏的數據都是原始數據，甚至不知道剔除瞭通貨膨脹沒有，當然通脹隻是近代的現象。利率變化背後的一些因素還是很不明瞭。如果有人對數據背後的因素做一些詳細的分析或許更好，利率史分析，希望中國的曆史學傢也能做做類似的研究。
