在法語裏Technology的意思是The science of techniques. 翻譯成中文也就是技術等於技藝學。Technology在英語或德語裏都代指工業化的，自動的技術。於是這造成瞭我的一點疑惑，Mauss認為”原始與現代的分彆往往是沒有依據的。”這個觀點顯然在理解人種上有包容和救贖的可能。但是由於他強調傳統，並且不區分現代與原始，使得他的techniques沒有辦法討論自動化以及工業化。在他眼裏或許電腦裏的數據和洞穴裏的象形文字都有一定的延續性。Mauss近乎扁平化的本體景觀，與他的terminology是難以分開的。有用的地方是Mauss對於身體的強調。這個在海德格爾和西濛東的學說裏是沒有的。要發展Mauss的話需要考慮如何身體技藝如何結閤機械化和數據化。
