优点： 1，人类整体的观察视角和价值关怀。 2，强调交往互动的重要性，尤其是物品贸易和军事战争。 3，文字流畅，易于阅读。缺点： 1，直线进步的历史观。 2，忽视社会结构的历史变化和各时期的内在冲突。 3，微观视角欠缺，导致叙述中故事或者段子太少，而宏观分析的干货太多...

原著写得挺好，但翻译一般，责编水平一般，错别字较多，如译者序言第6页对斯宾格勒及其著作的翻译居然有两种，第7页更是同一句话重复了两遍。译者在译后记里居然还说“逐字逐句”的通读译稿，真是讽刺。正文中更是存在诸多问题。
