评分第一遍印象最深的几点:(1)nationalism =/= patriotism.前者是aggressive而后者是defensive。(2)不管是communism, political catholicism, zionism, trotskyism 或者pacifism都可以同时是nationalist(nationalism无关立场左右,socialist也可以同时是nationalist,甚至叛国者(eg anglophobia)也可以同时是nationalist)。(3)nationalism是transferable的,一个英国人可能nationalism的对象是俄罗斯。一个人nationalism的对象并不一定是此人国家,可以是任何(甚至没有)的对象。(4)obsession
评分奥威尔这篇里的nationalism其实可以推至任何强烈identify于某种群体(并无条件认为该群体优于他者)的人群,毕竟该人群的目的是“secure more power and more prestige, ...for the nation or other unit in which he has chosen to sink his own individuality”。文中提到的nationalist的主要特征(obsession, instability, indifference to reality)跟最近的某事件联系起来看也格外有趣。另两篇(反犹主义和体育精神)算是第一篇的某种延伸吧,体育那篇格外毒舌。
