Emily Wilson is a professor of classical studies at the University of Pennsylvania.
Composed at the rosy-fingered dawn of world literature almost three millennia ago, The Odyssey is a poem about violence and the aftermath of war; about wealth, poverty, and power; about marriage and family; about travelers, hospitality, and the yearning for home.
This fresh, authoritative translation captures the beauty of this ancient poem as well as the drama of its narrative. Its characters are unforgettable, none more so than the "complicated" hero himself, a man of many disguises, many tricks, and many moods, who emerges in this version as a more fully rounded human being than ever before.
Written in iambic pentameter verse and a vivid, contemporary idiom, Emily Wilson's Odyssey sings with a voice that echoes Homer's music; matching the number of lines in the Greek original, the poem sails along at Homer's swift, smooth pace.
A fascinating, informative introduction explores the Bronze Age milieu that produced the epic, the poem's major themes, the controversies about its origins, and the unparalleled scope of its impact and influence. Maps drawn especially for this volume, a pronunciation glossary, and extensive notes and summaries of each book make this an Odyssey that will be treasured by a new generation of readers.

是奧德賽的第一位女性譯者又如何呢,若是在Hades遇到Penelope,兩人也隻能have a silent cup of tea吧。Fidelity, such a lonely word.
評分書籍裝幀和毛邊設計滿分!本來不感興趣的話題,但是就是想要入手一本啊!Introduction部分寫的深入淺齣,翻譯的很不錯。
評分本是寫作課作業,但卻真正的吸引瞭我。書中有人們對美德的追求,有mortals和immortals的共處,有閃耀的古希臘文明。印象深刻。
評分韻律感極好,畫麵感很強,有好幾幕非常喜歡,bloodshed 一章反復讀瞭好幾遍,太爽快。寫Penelope,”She offers hope to all, sends signs to each, but all the while her mind moves somewhere all” 她隱忍聰明堅定也神秘,然她最大的價值仍在她的sexual fidelity. 寫Odysseus,他勇敢聰慧強大,卻也說齣 “when the gods bring misery and pain, we have to bear our suffering with calm.” 故事奇妙壯麗,好看。
評分Excellent translation! I went to her talk at Yale. Such a sharp and attentive scholar. When she read out aloud her own translation--Penelope's dream and the massacre of the suitors, I was enamored by her words. She genuinely loves Homer and her passion for this literature just exuberated in the lecture hall. Energy overflows in her translation!
