夏加儿的灵感来自于对死亡的神圣化，或者说对死亡的否认。并非自然的动物本性，而恰恰是对惊恐的掩饰，让我们活在丑陋之中。他大概是故意丑着画的。这种真诚的努力，向人揭示一个颠覆性的真理：死亡并不必然产生恐惧，然而，恐惧的人生却虽生犹死。往深了讲，人们常常用欲望来掩饰恐惧，殊不知欲望恰恰是恐惧的结果，过分掩饰，相当于饮鸩止渴。相比之下，我更喜欢现代的多伊格。

Chagall是自己最喜欢的画家，有些遗憾几幅很是喜爱的画作没看到。这本书很适合收藏，网上查阅好像有软壳版的，价格便宜很多。但感觉还是这个最好。
