前四章分别讨论了苏韶、招魂葬、郭翻/辛玄子，及陶科斗诸事中所反映的生者-死者关系及其逻辑，让人惊讶于作者对《真诰》研读之细腻。第五章突然涉及灵宝经，迅速将此前略显细碎的论述置于一绝大问题意识的框架之中。两相对比，显然可见灵宝经撰作之特色、动机与意旨。由此对非佛教文献的解读，而探讨佛教教义传播之具相，即道教的“重生”观念非为佛教强加之影响，而是灵宝派有意识地对此观念进行融摄、改造之结果。
