比尔•波特，美国当代著名汉学家、翻译家。他将大量的中国古代佛教典籍翻译成英文，在欧美引起了极大的反响。他曾经以“赤松”的笔名翻译出版《寒山诗集》《石屋山居诗集》《菩提达摩禅法》等英文著作。从1972年起，他一直生活在中国台湾和香港地区，经常在中国大陆旅行，写了大量介绍中国风土人文的作品。他的关于中国隐者的作品《空谷幽兰》在美国一经出版，即在欧美各国掀起了一股学习中国传统文化的热潮。2007年《空谷幽兰》中文新版推出后，受到国内读者的热烈欢迎，一版再版，畅销至今。
