Elizabeth Strout is the author of several novels, including: Abide with Me, a national bestseller and BookSense pick, and Amy and Isabelle, which won the Los Angeles Times Art Seidenbaum Award for First Fiction and the Chicago Tribune Heartland Prize, and was a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award and the Orange Prize in England. In 2009 she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for her book Olive Kitteridge. Her short stories have been published in a number of magazines, including The New Yorker. She teaches at the Master of Fine Arts program at Queens University of Charlotte.

充满了中老年人的黑色幽默，一开始看得笑出声，但越来越笑不出来，渐渐老去，越来越多的悲哀和孤独。i'm getting closer and I get it, feeling sad.

一本极美的小说，有关年长以后每个人必须面对的孤独、疾病、死亡、分离。Olive不是一个多讨人喜欢的老人，但她在这本书中的经历足以让读者感受到生命的美好与脆弱的共存。

Olive住在缅因临海小镇，从家里的窗户可以望到大海，再嫁之后，家门外是整片森林。看过新英格兰的临海小镇和秋季缅因的大片大片的枫树的美之后，我无法将我的想象和书中的故事叠加在一起。我以为住在新英格兰海边的人，应该幸福感爆棚，因为那些紧邻大海的房子都实在太美了，是我的想象力远远无法企及的美。但事实是，住在这里的人，跟其它任何地方的人一样，一生中不乏忧伤的故事。这本小说的主题是迟暮，当人面临死亡时，回顾自己的一生，发现自己并不知道自己是谁，如同雾里看花。迟暮之年还会伴随着寂寞感。成年孩子生活在别处，伴侣去世后，一个人，一个年迈体弱直面死亡的人，该如何面对孤单？我以为我已经体验过了各种况味的孤独，不，并没有，我跟随时间过着我的生活啊，总会有新鲜的孤独在路边冒出，如同蘑菇等我采摘。

作为续集，还是很好看。年近老年，虽然性格未变，但是因为身体的原因，不得不慢下来。最可怕的是她突然意识到自己的儿子娶了一个跟自己一样的女人，这样的反思，在她身上，实属不多见。一口气听完，还是很吸引人。
