For much of his life Pascal (1623-62) worked on a magnum opus which was never published in its intended form. Instead, he left a mass of fragments, some of them meant as notes for the Apologie. These were to become known as the Pensees, and they occupy a crucial place in Western philosophy and religious writing. Pascal's general intention was to confound scepticism about metaphysical questions. Some of the Pensees are fully developed literary reflections on the human condition,, some contradict others, and some remain jottings whose meaning will never be clear. The most important are among the most powerful aphorisms about human experience and behaviour ever written in any language. This translation is the only one based on the Pensees as Pascal left them. It includes the principal dossiers classified by Pascal, as well as the essential portion of the important Writings on Grace. A detailed thematic index gives access to Pascal's areas of concern, while the selection of texts and the introduction help to show why Pascal changed the plan of his projected work before abandoning the book he might have written. 读后感

这本书还是很不错的，堪称西方论语，是几代人的精神食粮。但是这个翻译委实有问题。如果想看全本的，可以买上海书局出版社的《蒙田随笔全集》，译者马振聘。译笔相当流畅，注释也简明清楚，三卷的价钱60块，大家去找大学里的打折书店或者卓越当当，可以更便宜。 P.S. 此非广告帖

英文版看不明白就会对应着读这本。英文版是西方经典全套（硬皮）里的其中一本，跟meditations on first philosophy合在一本里。这本比英文版少很多句子，是去掉了边注吗？ 挺小的时候妈妈给买的，到现在还是最喜欢的一本书。翻译对我这种一般读者来说真的很好了，不会读得云里...
