The urban condition is today being radically transformed. Urban restructuring is accelerating, new urban spaces are being consolidated, and new forms of urbanization are crystallizing. In New Urban Spaces, Neil Brenner argues that understanding these mutations of urban life requires not only concrete research, but new theories of urbanization. Drawing on critical geopolitical economy and spatialized approaches to state theory, Brenner offers a paradigmatic account of how rescaling processes are transforming inherited formations of urban space and their variegated consequences for emergent patterns and pathways of urbanization. The book also advances an understanding of critical urban theory as radically revisable: key urban concepts must be continually reinvented in relation to the relentlessly mutating worlds of urbanization they aspire to illuminate.

Brenner很会写，但真没必要写这么冗杂。相关理论结合John Agnew和Susan Strange的著作看更有意义，后两者补充了被B忽视（或者说刻意弱化）的领域维度。另外许多人批评B的理论里面没有行动者，这一点本人持保留意见，state在他的文本中其实是具有行动者和地理空间双重含义的，只可惜并没有明确区分开
