Still, I decline to be pessimistic. ???? 某种意义上来说，红衣男和The Noise of Time一样，都属于巴恩斯式“英雄叙事”。一个浴血饮弹、疯狂、纸醉金迷的时代里，神志清醒的正常人。阅读体验有点像《福楼拜的鹦鹉》，一开始晕个几十页，之后丝滑畅快一气呵成读到结尾。看他如何穿针引线自如游走于繁杂的材料之间，如何在戏谑的字里行间埋下严肃的针脚。巴恩斯拒绝通过材料对人物下绝对定义，强调"We cannot know", 这真是一个非虚构写作者对人物最大的敬意与祝福。最终，这其实是本希望之书，能看到喜爱的作家在古稀之年有这种产出，对我而言也是恩典。有些奇异的，我竟然真的愿意相信他。在这个同样疯狂的时代。
