RON PADGETT was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1942. He re-

ceived his B.A. from Columbia College in 1964, tile same year

he won the Gotham Book Mart Avant-Garde Poetry Prize. He

spent 1965-1966 in Paris on a Fulbright. Since 1969 he has

worked with the Teachers and Writers Collaborative and

numerous Poets in the Schools programs. In 1977-1978

he worked as Writer in the Community in. Lancaster. Sou+h----

by SUN, Great Balls of Fire, Tulsa Kid, Bean Spasms (with Ted

Berrigan and Joe Brainard), The Adventures of Mr and Mrs lira

and Ron (with Jim Dine), Antlers in the Treetops ~with Tom

Veitch), An Anthology of New York Poets (with David Shapiro),

and The Whole Word Catalogue 2 (with Bill Zavatsky), as well

~as book translations of Apollinaire, Duchamp, Cendrars and

Larbaud.

Currently he directs the Poetry Project at St. Mark s Church

In-.the-Bowery. New York is home base for him. his wife and

son.
