INTRODUCTION

When an accident ended my first career--as a

dancer--I was stunned and disappointed, but I was not

confused. There was never any doubt in my mind as to

what I would do next. For even as a child, exposed for

the first time to the magical transformations that took

place backstage, I had always been fascinated by makeup,

by the shadings, textures, and colors that could turn

actresses and dancers into whomever they wanted to

be. And although friends tried to dissuade me, it was no

use; after a period of formal study in cosmetics and an

apprenticeship working behind the counter, I opened my

own one-woman salon.

Now, nearly two decades later, I know that there

are no "accidents." It was my destiny to indulge women s

fantasies with color, to bring out their beauty with healthy

natural cosmetics. But although I began less than twenty
