阿尔弗雷德·贝斯特1913年生于美国纽约，1940年开始发表小说，曾参与《超人》、《蝙蝠侠》等美国著名漫画剧本的编写。从20世纪50年代开始，随着一系列优秀短篇科幻小说的发表，特别是两部想像非凡的长篇科幻小说《被毁灭的人》、《群星，我的归宿》的出版，贝斯特成为美国科幻界最核心的明星作家。《被毁灭的人》获得了首届世界科幻大奖“雨果奖”，这部作品与《群星，我的归宿》一样，已经成为科幻史上的经典名著。1987年，贝斯特在美国宾夕法尼亚州去世。贝斯特的科幻小说情节紧张、刺激，充满了大师级科幻文学的杰出贡献，1987年，美国科幻与幻想小说协会授予他“星云奖”特别奖。贝斯特是该协会评选出的第九位“科幻大师”。

通篇看下来更像是通俗小说，没有看到译者所说的“文学性”（可能是翻译的原因）不过故事尚算精彩，另外，本书的几段爱情描写的极为失败

这是我小时候最喜欢的一部科幻小说，现在仍然常常翻看。 初中的时候买的，收在郭建中编的那套丛书里。前段时间找到了英文本，才发现郭建中编的福建少儿版不是全译。我不知道赵海虹这个版本译文如何。原著英文简单，粗糙，充满生机和力量。福建少儿版中译本没有完全把这种风格表...

少见的东西，我很难评价它，混合的感觉要表达，发现词不达意。 总的感觉是不喜欢。复仇故事老套路，缺乏奇妙的悬念，翻译粗劣（赵译），枯燥的说教，毫无血肉的不真实的主人公，找不出一个可爱的角色......丝毫没有科幻小说的好处，我都不愿承认这是科幻。 同时我佩服作者...
