Shirley Jackson was born in San Francisco in 1919. She first received wide critical acclaim for her short story 'The Lottery', which was published in 1948. An emotionally disturbed woman in a haunted Gothic house. Terror and death are inevitable. Jackson once again showcases her ability to surprise the reader, as she did in “The Lottery”. But this one appears more incessantly torturing.
