奇玛曼达•恩戈兹•阿迪契1977年出生于尼日利亚南部城市埃努古，父亲是统计学教授，母亲是大学教务。阿迪契起初在尼日利亚大学学习医药学，后转至美国，在东康涅狄格州立大学学习传媒学和政治学，之后在约翰•霍普金斯大学获得创意写作的文学硕士学位。

阿迪契写过诗歌和剧本，并时有短篇小说在文学杂志上发表，多次获奖。2003年，她的首部长篇小说《紫色木槿》（Purple Hibiscus）出版，故事以一个15岁孩子的视角，讲述了20世纪90年代尼日利亚的政治骚乱。小说入围2004年橘子小说奖，并获2005年英联邦作家奖。她的第二部长篇小说《半轮黄日》（Half of a Yellow Sun），讲述的是尼日利亚内战爆发之前和期间的事。小说获2007年橘子小说奖。2010年，阿迪契入选《纽约客》评出的“二十位四十岁以下的小说家”。

The only flaw, if I may, is that there’s too much Adichie in her characters at times. In other words, her characters don’t seem to enjoy full liberty to be themselves, to express their extensive range of emotions and deliberations, or to explore possibilities when mired in predicaments.
