And if not, what are the consequences for justice as a moral and political ideal? These are the questions Michael Sandel takes up in this penetrating critique of contemporary liberalism. Sandel locates modern liberalism in the tradition of Kant, and focuses on its most influential recent expression in the work of John Rawls. In the most important challenge yet to Rawls' theory of justice, Sandel traces the limits of liberalism to the conception of the person that underlies it, and argues for a deeper understanding of community than liberalism allows.

《公正》某種程度上可以算這本書的普及版，看完《公正》隻能算是增加點裝逼的談資而已，但對於總體上把握本書中涉及密爾、康德、羅爾斯的幾個重要概念還是很有幫助的，看的時候不至於陷入對拗口文字的糾纏而暈頭轉嚮。真正要深入理解自由主義與公正，還得看這本書。

在再版前言中，Sandel區分瞭正義與善觀念相聯係的兩種路徑：1、正義應從特殊共同體或傳統中人們共同信奉或廣泛分享的價值中汲取道德力量，共同體的價值規定著何為正義，何為不正義【參Walzer，1982】；2、正義原則及其證明取決於它們所服務的那些目的的道德價值或內在善。S...

【按語：重新整理瞭一下桑德爾《自由主義與正義的局限性（1982）》的讀書筆記，補充閱讀瞭前幾年略過的“章4：正義與善”。雖然此書由於批駁的緣故而略淩亂，但整體上卻是一部極有理論高度的傑齣著作：桑德爾對Rawls《正義論》的批評根本上是對Kant理論（autonomy概念）的批評...

在沒有多少學科基礎的情況下接觸瞭本書，雖然進度很慢，但越讀越覺得其極具趣味，由此打開瞭探索相關著作的大門，感謝桑德爾精妙的論述，
