考察1920年代至今華語文學及影視劇中的（類）女同敘事如何將女性間的情欲刻畫為青春懷舊的對象。馬嘉蘭認為這一時間限定（同性欲望先於女性步入異性婚姻）在銘刻異性戀霸權、目的論敘事的同時，也通過召喚未完成的“過去”來實現對“當下”的批判性乾預。書中的議題與酷兒理論對queer temporality的思考有許多可對話的地方，不過全書除瞭一處注釋引用Edelman之外沒有觸及任何相關討論，對酷兒理論的介入主要集中在對《暗櫃認識論》的迴應。
