作为第二次女性主义浪潮的奠基之作，Betty Friedan在这本书中所达到了一个难以企及的高度。以一本书之力点燃一次社会变革并且自己投身其中，听起来像是社会学者最狂野的春梦。读完这本书后我才发现在美国各种电视作品中，被这种“女性迷思”困住的女性有多么常见：《广告狂人》中的Betty Draper，《时时刻刻》中的Julianne Moore，《大小谎言》中的Nicole Kidman。《欲望都市》中的Charlotte，而在Samantha的对比下，这种挣扎显得尤为惨烈。《老友记》中Rachel对于原本人生轨迹的反抗也是对这种迷思的反抗。工作第一年对我来说非常困难。在几次想要放弃时这本书既是鼓励又是警告——当我闲暇时想要做的事情不再是需要忙里偷闲去做的事情时，它们大概也就失去了其快乐的意义

Betty Draper和Mrs Dallowy的psychoanalyst没能解答的问题，Friedan解答了。本书写就的时间很早，Friedan也仅将她的叙事落脚在美国女性；但是今天读来仍是意义非凡，所反映的困境也远非仅仅是那个时代的美国女性独有。书中不少观点即使用于评价现在的中国社会也是妥帖的。
