作為第二次女性主義浪潮的奠基之作，Betty Friedan在這本書中所達到瞭一個難以企及的高度。以一本書之力點燃一次社會變革並且自己投身其中，聽起來像是社會學者最狂野的春夢。讀完這本書後我纔發現在美國各種電視作品中，被這種“女性迷思”睏住的女性有多麼常見：《廣告狂人》中的Betty Draper，《時時刻刻》中的Julianne Moore，《大小謊言》中的Nicole Kidman。《欲望都市》中的Charlotte，而在Samantha的對比下，這種掙紮顯得尤為慘烈。《老友記》中Rachel對於原本人生軌跡的反抗也是對這種迷思的反抗。工作第一年對我來說非常睏難。在幾次想要放棄時這本書既是鼓勵又是警告——當我閑暇時想要做的事情不再是需要忙裏偷閑去做的事情時，它們大概也就失去瞭其快樂的意義

這本書幾乎可以被認作是女性研究或者女權運動的奠基性的作品。第一次係統性的全麵性的在美國大陸撐開瞭一個領域。現在看去很多分析很rough，沒有進一步提煉，但是已經非常齣色瞭。這是一本寫於1963年的書，研究的sample range隻到1950s，但是這本書裏所描述的1960s之前的女性生存狀況卻與當下的情況仍然高度相似。女權主義進程簡直比種族平等進度更緩慢更睏難。Friedan做瞭很多總結，但是進一步做總結的話，最大的阻力是來自傳統的慣性的束縛和刻意為之的錯誤社會導嚮，如果加上上學期我的一位教授的想法，還有一個原因可以被加上去：因為社會資源控製在男性手中。
