奧蘭多·費吉斯（Orlando Figes），英國人，生於1959年，劍橋大學三一學院博士，現任英國倫敦大學伯貝剋學院曆史學教授。俄國生活的方方麵麵，不論是文學藝術，還是政治經濟，他都爛熟於心，無人能齣其右。他的一係列解讀沙俄及蘇聯曆史的著作如《耳語者：斯大林時代蘇聯的私人生活》《娜塔莎之舞：俄羅斯文化史》等都取得瞭非凡的成就，是當今英語世界俄羅斯研究的一流大傢。作品曾獲沃爾夫森奬、NCR圖書奬，並入圍薩繆爾·約翰遜奬、達夫·庫珀奬等，已被翻譯成二十多種文字齣版。

The terrible conflict that dominated the mid 19th century, the Crimean War killed at least 800,000 men and pitted Russia against a formidable coalition of Britain, France and the Ottoman Empire. It was a war for territory, provoked by fear that if the Ottoman Empire were to collapse then Russia could control a huge swathe of land from the Balkans to the Persian Gulf.
