施堅雅（G.WilliamSkinner，1925-2008），1925年2月14日齣生於美國加州奧剋蘭，1954年於美國康奈爾大學獲人類學博士學位，先後任哥倫比亞大學社會學助教、康奈爾大學人類學副教授、教授，1965年起任斯坦福大學人類學教授，1990年起任加州大學戴維斯分校人類學教授。1950年至1951年到中國四川考察，1977年考察中國城市市場。1980年當選為美國科學院院士，1983年至1984年任美國亞洲學會會長，1987年至1989年任斯坦福大學巴巴拉·布朗寜人文科學教授。作品中譯本有《中國農村的市場和社會結構》（中國社會科學齣版社1998年版）、《中華帝國晚期的城市》（中華書局2000年版），並發錶大量研究中國社會、經濟結構、社會科學研究、農村和農民、人口、民族、海外華人的論文。
