保羅•謝奇•烏塞（Paolo Cherchi Usai），現任荷蘭Haghefilm Foundation 總監，曾任澳大利亞國傢視聽資料館館長、美國喬治?伊斯曼影像博物館電影部門高級館員、羅徹斯特大學電影學副教授，傑弗瑞?塞茨尼剋電影保護學校校長。曾與人共同創辦波爾德諾默片影展及國際早期電影研究促進會（DOMITOR）；他同時是美國國傢電影保護局預備成員和國際電影資料館聯盟執行委員會委員。其著作有《無聲電影導論》（Silent Cinema: An Introduction , 英國電影學院齣版，2000）等。

幾年前先讀過中文版，當時認為元影像(Model Image)隻是一廂情願。現在得思考電影修復是不是多愁善感，重返模擬、拒絕數字的態度是不是在倡導某種“衰亡美學”。

死亡不可避免，需要做的就是嚮死而生，膠片的保存和修復或許是徒勞，但是這種徒勞仍具有意義。Usai眼裏的終極意義是無法重返的原始語境，這也是他進行詩性寫作的齣發點，過度的消費批評和道德主義反過來又成瞭他的局限。
