和某国某朝各种共鸣各种似曾相识；作者在尾声中指出集权政治对社会传统价值造成了巨大的有时甚至是永久性的伤害而要重建则绝非那么简单可谓一针见血；唯一缺点是因为要处理的维度过多（不同国家，以及政治经济社会生活各方面）而略嫌凌乱和琐碎

艾普尔鲍姆此书写的是二战结束之后东欧高度斯大林化的时期，尤其是对波兰、匈牙利与东德这三个国家，在苏联占领之后，政权如何演变，政策如何制订，铁幕又是如何落下的，描写尤力。书写得相当精彩，提供了很多所不知道的细节，可读性很强。同时也能引发人们许多的思考。历史都具有相似之处，远在东欧的历史，让我们也有着非常熟悉的感觉。
